The stay in Praia was long (10 hours) so we decided to ask our taxi driver Beto (a friend of Dunia) to take us to a hotel so that we could use this as our base for the afternoon, in comfort and air conditioning after a morning of shopping.
Because Beto could only speak Portuguese, he introduced us to Antonio, who spoke perfect English. The two of them took us around the shops that Dunia had recommended so that we could buy sheets, crockery and knifes and forks etc. The shop which we were taken to was away from the Plateau and sold everything from groceries to the latest hi-fi equipment and some very nice furniture.
Beto was kind enough to offer to send our purchases over to Maio by ferry for the attention of Dunia. For this service he accepted 20 Euros plus 50 Euros for the taxi fair which also included picking us up from the hotel at 10pm for the airport. We also gave Antonio a token tip for his trouble, which turned out to be a great benefit when attempting to purchase items when the store personnel only speak their native language and when all descriptions are also in Portuguese.
