Friday 30th Nov. 2012 - Staying on Boa Vista
Our flight was at 09:35 and landed on time in Boa Vista at 15:00 local time.
The flight, as always, was packed with excited holiday makers who were on their first trip to Cape Verde and also at least one couple we met who were on a return visit.
After adjusting my watch to Cape Verde time, back one hour, we took a taxi to our the hotel Boa Vista, which cost 50 Euros for bed and breakfast. The night in the hotel wasn’t bad but also wasn’t the best we have stayed in but we can certainly recommend the breakfast. This consisted of the normal Continental breakfast and also omelette and fried eggs.
This hotel is right on the main ‘high street’ in Sal Rei which gave us the rest of the day to explore and take a rest before our flight to Praia and then straight onto Maio.
We learnt that the airport at Praia has had a name change from ‘Francisco Mendes’ to ‘Nelson Mandela’ airport.
Pirero met us at the airport with a car we are hiring from Bemvindo who owns a long established taxi company. We first met Bemvindo on our initial visit to Maio, before our bungalow had been built.
The bright yellow pick-up we hired had 126K on the clock but is still going strong. I guess the only endearing feature of it is that it accentuates every cobbled stone on the road. For the three days we need it Bemvindo charged us 40 Euros per day, which is quite expensive, but we need transport to get the heavier supplies for the week, such as diesel for the generator and bottled water.
